Minerals Species: Cryolite (rare crystals).
Location of mineral deposit: Ivigtut, Arsukfjord, Greenland. (Type Locality for Cryolite) Click here to see other minerals from Type localities.
Description: Rare crystals of cryolite in a 3 mm thick overgrowth on an earlier generation of massive white cryolite with minor brown limonite plus a rhombic siderite on the rear. The cryolite crystals are highly lustrous, transparent and colorless. The crystals grew in a constricted vein preventing complete crystal development. Most visible crystals are complete and undamaged.
Overall size of mineral specimen: 5.5x5x2.5 cm.
Size of individual crystals: 2-4 mm.
