Minerals Species: Copper with Calcite.
Location of mineral deposit: Keweenaw Peninsula Copper District, Michigan.
Description: Hackly native copper that crystallized with translucent colorless calcite which remains in several areas. The copper is crystallized in negative (concave) shapes where it grew around calcite crystals that are now missing. No damage. Ex. Howard Chase (1889-1945); ex. Capt. Benjamin F. Chynoweth (1851-1910) superintendent of the National Mine, one-time owner of the Mass Mine.
